Nursery Uniform
Uniform at Beechdale
Some parents prefer that their child wears a full school uniform to help develop a sense of belonging to our nursery. This includes a red jumper or cardigan, grey or black trousers/jogging bottoms/grey pinafore dress/skirt, a white polo shirt and black shoes. However, uniform at Beechdale Nursery School is not compulsory, and it is not a requirement that uniform worn is branded, our families often find that generic items found in local stores are cheaper to purchase and replace.
Should you prefer a branded uniform, school jumpers and cardigans with the Beechdale school logo on are available to purchase from Tots to Teams. Jumpers are £9.45 and cardigans are £10.40 (prices correct as Dec 2025). We also may have some pre-loved uniform for a lower cost. Please contact the office who can advise you on what items of uniform are currently available.
If you need support with uniform for your child, please speak to a member of staff.
Clothing
Please do not send children in precious or expensive clothing, or coats/outerwear that could be easily spoiled! Often the activities in nursery can be a little messy as we use a lot of paint, glue, clay, chalk, and sand. We encourage our children to put on aprons, but they do not always provide complete protection.
To help develop children’s independence, it is important that children wear clothes and shoes that are easily manageable. Dungarees, tight-fitting jeans/trousers and all-in-one suits are very difficult for your children to manage independently.
Shoes with Velcro fastening and simple buckles are ideal. Trainers and boots with laces should not be worn as they are too difficult for children to manage on their own. Crocs, slip on shoes and open-toed sandals are also not suitable for nursery, as they are hazardous.
We love being outdoors and believe it is important for children’s learning and development for them to have opportunities to explore our wonderful outdoor area. Therefore, we ask all children to bring a pair of wellington boots and a waterproof coat, labelled with their name, so that they can continue to access the outdoor environment, whatever the weather. Boots should be kept in a waterproof, drawstring bag (no polythene bags for safety reasons) on your child’s peg and taken home at the end of the session/half term.
In the Summer months, children can wear shorts and summer dresses (covering the shoulders) Your child will also require a sun hat, preferably with neck protection.
It is essential that all items of clothing and shoes (especially Nursery jumpers/cardigans) are marked clearly with your child’s name. You can buy specially printed labels or use a biro or marker pen.
